1966 FORD MUSTANG COUPE

HIGHLIGHTS: – Fully restored and upgraded – Bare metal restoration – 302ci Windsor V8 with mild cam – C4 Automatic transmission – Power brakes and power steering – All new air conditioning – Bluetooth stereo system – 2 sets of wheels

This 1966 Ford Mustang coupe has been through a bare metal restoration and fitted with some tasteful upgrades. The car was originally built in the San Jose plant in California, rolling off the production line in October of 1966. Not much is know about the early part of its life other than the fact it was imported to Australia back in March of 1996. The car was originally a C code 289 V8 with bench seat but both of these things were changed in the restoration. The car underwent a full bare metal restoration approximately 10 years ago from the original Aussie owner before being sold to the current owner last year who has continued to improve on it.

Starting with the body, the car was stripped back to bare metal and professionally repainted in bright yellow. All of the chrome, trim and badges on the outside of the car were refinished or replaced. The front end was fitted with a new grille and LED halo style headlights for a modern touch. The car has two sets of wheels to give it distinctly different looks. The first set are 15” factory GT style wheels with thin white wall tyres and the second give it a more aggressive look with black Boyd Coddington wheels measuring 17” up front and 15” in the rear.

The interior of the car has been fully refinished by Classic and American Imports in the last year. The car was treated to an all new Pony style trim in black vinyl. Between the front bucket seats there is an aftermarket console with integrated cup holders. For tunes while cruising there is a Bluetooth stereo system with four speakers and subwoofer along with a wireless Apple Car play screen that sticks to the windscreen and plugs in. Keeping cabin temps in check is a new aftermarket under dash air conditioning system.

Lift the bonnet and you will find a neat engine bay with a 302ci V8 engine. The engine was rebuilt prior to the current ownership and features a mild cam. Spark is provided by a new ICE ignition system. The car was recently fitted with headers and a full custom exhaust system with remote control Varex mufflers to change the sound from mild to wild at the touch of a button. The whole engine bay was painted in the same yellow applied to the body during the restoration.

The engine is paired to a c4 automatic transmission with B&M Quick shifter. The car sits lower to the ground thanks to Pedders springs up front and new leaf springs with Monroe air shocks in the rear. The brakes have been upgraded to power assisted discs up front and drums in the rear with the brake booster hidden up under the front guard. The steering has been upgraded to be power assisted with engine mounted power steering pump.

These early Mustang coupes are iconic American classic cruisers and this one has ben fully restored with a bunch of really nice upgrades throughout. If you’ve been thinking about getting into a classic Mustang like this, now might be the right time!
