Berkley Kachi Kachi Dama Jig
Berkley Slomo Inchiku Jigs have come, gone and now for sale at the is Berkley fishing Australia's next evolution in slow jigging, the Berkley Kachi Kachi Dama Jig.
The Kachi is a type of Kabura jigging lure. Kabura being the latest craze in slow jigging where a freestyle weight slides up the leader allowing the weight to sink much faster than the little fly, so when the jig reaches the bottom, it is essentially separated.
The separation of both weight and body allows the fly to achieve better performance at representing the likes of cephalopod legs such as octopus, squid or cuttlefish which are three species high up on the menu list for snapper, morwong and other reef fish. Fish will usually spit a bait immediately if it does not feel quite right; therefore by having the weight separate from the fly means fish are more likely to keep nibbling at the fly until they get hooked.
The main difference between a typical Kabura Jig and the Berkley Kachi Kachi Dama Jig is that the Kachi sports two internal weights within the ball weight system which clack and chatter on the retrieve. It is this crucial difference which makes the Kachi the more technically advanced option compared to other Kabura jigs for sale on the market.
Other highlights of the Berkley Kachi Kachi Dama Jigs is the inclusion of quality Owner hooks for the best strength and performance. There is also braided line assist cord to offer better presentation and hookups. One other highlight feature to mention is that the ball weight is coloured black which allows fish to pay more attention to the fly containing the hooks instead of being distracted by the weight system.
One critical point to remember when fishing the Berkley Kachi Kachi Dama Jig is that for optimal results, it is best to send the lure to the bottom and wind up very slowly a couple of metres, then repeat. The reason for working the jig as slow as you possibly can is to extract the best possible presentation out of the fly. Winding too fast will cause the legs to bunch up and become far less attractive to fish down on the reef. Working the jig as slowly as possible is a simple approach which lands the most fish into your boat.
Another important tip, do not strike, the first nibble is typically at the skirt and not the hooks. Our suggestion is to lift gently but resist aggressively striking. Tease the fish, wind and raise slow and your patience will eventually pay off.
You can use an overhead or spin set up to fish the Berkley Kachi Kachi Dama Jigs; it does not matter so long as your gear matches the head weight well and the line is not too thick, which would prevent the ball head sliding up your leader with ease. Try to use low profile braid to leader knots such as the FG or slim beauty which will allow the ball weight to work at peak performance. Please also consider your leader length.
Snapper and other reef fish love the Kachi Kachi Dama Jigs. However, if you want to turn a great jig into something even more spectacular then take my advice and purchase a packet of Gulp Kachi Kachi trailer skirts. The trailers are sold separately right here on this listing via our ordering menu. Adding a gulp trailer to your Kachi delivers the ultimate trifecta of presentation, taste and smell.
What Colour Works Best?
The question we often get asked by our customers here at the , is what colours work best? The answer to this question is that they all do. However, in saying this, we find that different colours seem to perform better than others on different days or at particular times of the day. The solution is to have a variety of colours on hand in your lure box. If you see fish on the finder and they are not on the bite, change colours, it can often make a big difference.
One particular colour which does command particular attention though is the colour IKA Glow. If you are fishing at dawn, dusk or down deep in the water column the IKA Glow is typically the best colour to try first. Consider purchasing a packet of Glow colour Gulp Kachi Kachi trailer legs too for the advanced benefit of taste, smell and overall presentation.
What Weight Works Best?
Another question we often get asked here at the is what weight jig should I use?
Berkley Kachi Kachi Dama jigs work best when your fishing line is as vertical as possible, and naturally, you do need to get to the bottom. As a general guide, typically around 2 grams per metre of water depth will be the ideal weight that works best. So, in 30 metres of water, you can generally fish with a 60-gram jig. In 40 metres of water, fish an 80-gram jig and so on. Please do not be shy to use more weight than the minimum we recommend, especially in the case of ocean currents.
