This 1961 Buick LeSabre convertible is a 60s American classic cruiser that has been fitted with some cool custom upgrades. 1961 saw a whole new design for the Buick LeSabre and most cars for 61. Buick dropped the fins from the rear end but still retained some styling ques from the jet era giving them a really streamlined body before everything started to square up in the coming years.
This car is a factory convertible and is well presented in its original colour of Desert Fawn. The car appears to have been repainted many years ago in a restoration prior to it leaving the US. There is a large amount of chrome on the car which was typical of the late 50s and early 60s American cars. There was no need for any major body modifications because cars of this era have so much style right out of the factory. All that was left to do was to fit the wide white wall tyres to the original wheels and hubcaps and slam it down to the ground on airbag suspension. The airbags on all four corners are managed through a RideTech Ridepro digital controller.
The interior of the car has been retrimmed during the restoration in the factory buick tri-tone style. The dash and steering wheels on these cars are space age right out of the factory. There is a trio of aftermarket gauges sunk into the centre of the dash. The centre console splits the front bucket seats and holds the automatic shifter and airbag controller. The original radio remains in the dash but there is a hidden Alpine stereo behind a panel in the dash with Alpine speakers fitted front and rear. The boot has been panelled out and trimmed to match the inside. The roof is power operated from factory however it is not currently functional and will require some attention.
Under the bonnet is the factory 364ci Buick V8 engine. The engine is paired a mandatory two-speed Turbine Drive Dynaflow floor shift automatic transmission. Power is fed to the rear wheels through the factory differential. The car features power steering and has been upgraded to a power disc brake front end. As mentioned previously, the suspension has been upgraded to airbag suspension all round with RideTech shocks.
These early 60s American convertibles are great classic cruisers with timeless styling. It doesnât take much to turn them into cool customs like this one with wide white wall tyres and slammed to the ground on air bag suspension.
