LAST OF THE T-TYPES

The MG TF is considered by many enthusiasts to be the most attractive of the traditional T-types with the lower bonnet line, sloping grille and headlights moulded in to the front guards. Fitted with the same well proven XPAG 1250cc engine and gearbox fitted to earlier TC and TD models, period performance was engaging and spirited.

This TF was delivered new to Motors Ltd of Flinders St Adelaide in 1954 and benefits from a comprehensive restoration including re-wooding of the body and full engine re-build in 2006 with receipts for mechanical work since 2002 total over $24k. It presents as a very tidy example finished in light grey with contrasting brightwork, painted silver, powder coated bright finish wire wheels and leather claret red interior. The only deviation from standard with the interior is the addition of colour matched lap-sash seat belts.

The weather equipment includes a ‘pepper 7 salt’ canvas hood with matching sides curtains in quality fabric whilst the tonneau cover is in traditional black vinyl, and a custom half-tonneau/hood cover is in a high quality black fabric. The engine bay presents with no obvious alterations to original specification.

Externally the TF has some small cosmetic changes such as the front badge bar and twin 5¾” Lucas SFT576 driving lights with padded protective fabric covers. There is also a lightweight chrome rear luggage rack included, however not currently fitted.

The TF is the last of the archetypal square rigger style MG’s. The engine is spritely in response and the gearbox selection is short and sharp. Sitting behind the original bakelite steering wheel provides light and precise control, whilst the drum brakes are ample for the period. This MG TF will provide its new owner with that classic 1950’s ‘wind in the hair’ motoring experience.
