We can't tell you which payment methods to use, however we can suggest ways of paying that are safe.
Safer payment methods:
-
Offer financial and anti-fraud protection.
-
Don't reveal your details.
-
Produce a record of the transaction and can refund money.
Banned payment methods
Tradingpost has banned the use of money transfer services like Western Union. We know that fraudulent buyers and sellers use these services and there's no protection for you once your money has been transferred. Avoid using these services when you're buying from someone you don't know.
Tips and advice
-
Be suspicious if a seller wants to change payment methods. Don't pay a seller who tells you that a safe payment method is unavailable after you've committed to buy.
-
Use a payment method you feel comfortable with. Don't be afraid to ask the seller if they'll accept a different payment method and be wary if they refuse. You may want to withdraw your offer.
-
Keep your receipt. You might need it later if there is a dispute.
-
Keep up to date with scams. We publish regular updates on the latest frauds here.
-
Don't send money overseas. Tradingpost members must live in Australia. If you're asked to send money outside the country, we want to know about it. Email us.
-
Be wary when buying or selling rare or expensive items. Scammers often use these goods to attract their victims. Get as much information about the seller or buyer as you can.
-
Talk to the seller before you pay. This will help you confirm that you have their correct contact details and you'll get a better idea of who you're dealing with.
-
Never send cash in the mail. Kind of a no-brainer but you'd be surprised at how often this happens.

-
Check the website address of the site you're on before you enter your password or personal information.

This will make it harder to guess.
-
If you think your profile or password has been compromised change your password immediately and email us.
