PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

MV Agusta Mono Albelo 125

In 1953 MV offered a 125cc customer racer for privateers. The bike was developed directly from Cecil Sandford's World Championship-winning works bike, and Ital regulations for the domestic 'Formula Sport' stipulated that machines should have only a single camshaft and four gears. From these regulations the Mono Albero (single-camshaft) 125 racer was born.

Bore and stroke were 53x56mm and the motor breathed via a 27mm Dell'Orto racing carburettor, and produced 16bhp at 10,300rpm. The cycle parts were virtually an exact copy of the 1952 works bikes', featuring a tubular duplex loop frame, telescopic front fork with central hydraulic damper, and swinging-arm rear suspension. Brakes were full-width aluminium-alloy: 7" diameter at the front, 6" at the rear. Dry weight was 75kg and the top speed over 145km/h.

Italy's long-distance road races, such as the Moto Giro d'Italia, and Milan-Taranto, required machines be street legal and possess lights, all Albelo were fitted with a flywheel generator. The MV Agusta Monoalbero 125 racer proved an enormous success, remaining in production until 1956 and continued to offer privateers a competitive ride in the 125cc class.

Although the precise number of Mono's is a topic of much discussion, the experts claim it was only 52 to 56, making any example extremely rare. The Mono Alblo was held in such high esteem that Soichiro Honda procured one for his official Honda Museum.

The exact year of this particular bike is not clear. It has been built to factory race specification and we are told it was built by a French team that ran the MV Factory squad. Built spec includes, Works Alloy based seat, Works oil tank (Twice bigger than original), and comes with spare pistons, original oil tank, and many extra spares.

The bike is reported as running in excellent condition. The advertised price includes all shipping & arrival costs into ..
