The 1960s were Holden’s golden era, rolling out a greatest-hits lineup that put half of Australia on wheels. It kicked off with the FB (1960) and EK (1961–62), then the EJ (1962–63) and landmark EH (1963–65) which ushered in the robust “red” straight-six.

The HD (1965–66) and HR (1966–68) brought more space and sharper dynamics, while the HK (1968–69) arrived with sleeker styling and, crucially, V8 options.

That HK also birthed the Monaro coupe—poster-car territory—with Chevrolet 307/327 V8s, later joined by Holden’s own 253/308 in the HT (1969–70).
