2006 holden viva problems

The 2006 Holden Viva (yep, the Daewoo Lacetti in a Holden frock) can be a bargain, but it’s not exactly bulletproof.

  • Timing belt and water pump neglect: failure can grenade the engine; change them on time.
  • Coil packs and plugs causing misfires; sometimes a crank angle sensor throws in a tantrum.
  • Auto transmission harsh shifts or flare from worn solenoids/valve body and old fluid.
  • Cooling system leaks from radiator end tanks or dodgy thermostats leading to overheating.
  • Front control arm bushes and strut tops wear early; knocks, tramlining, and uneven tyre wear.
  • Electric window regulators and central locking gremlins; interior trim rattles for extra ambience.

Look for service history, proof of a recent timing belt kit, and fresh fluids; then take it for a long, hot test drive. A pre‑purchase inspection and a quick OBD scan can save you from inheriting someone else’s mechanical soap opera. If it’s been maintained, it’ll commute happily; if not, budget repairs before you budget mods.
