2010 bmw x5 problems Page 3

The 2010 BMW X5 (E70) can be brilliant until it isn’t—then it invoices like a private hospital.

Here are the gremlins owners most often report in Australia:

• Diesel 30d/40d: EGR cooler leaks/recall risk, DPF clogging on short trips, and intake carbon build-up leading to rough idle and limp mode.
• Petrol six (xDrive35i): electric water pump/thermostat failures, plastic coolant bits cracking, and charge pipe splits; occasional injector/HPFP dramas.
• V8 models (N62/N63): oil leaks and valve stem seals, cooling system woes, timing chain or hot-vee heat soak issues, plus coils/injectors that love your bank account.
• Driveline and chassis: transfer-case actuator shudder, ZF auto mechatronic sleeve/seal leaks causing harsh shifts, rear air-spring leaks and tired control arm bushes.

Check service history, scan for codes, and budget a slush fund—then get a BMW specialist pre-purchase inspection before you hand over any folding money.
