2014 mazda cx-5 diesel problems Page 3

The 2014 Mazda CX-5 2.2‑litre diesel is clever and frugal, until city driving and short trips make the DPF have an existential crisis.

Common issues owners report include:

• DPF regeneration troubles causing rising oil level and warning lights; frequent short trips make it worse
• EGR and intake soot build‑up leading to rough idle, smoke, or limp mode
• Turbocharger wear or failure (often oil‑related), whine/smoke under load
• AWD transfer case/shaft noises or leaks on higher‑km cars
• i‑Stop battery wear and weak start batteries sooner than expected

Look for full dealer software updates, proof of 10,000 km oil changes with the correct spec oil, and take a long highway test to confirm smooth DPF regens.

If it clears those hurdles, it’s a solid family wagon; if not, walk away before your wallet performs its own regeneration cycle.
