2018 hyundai santa fe problems Page 3

The 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe is generally a solid family hauler, but it’s not entirely drama-free. Here are the issues Australian owners most often grumble about:

• 2.2 CRDi diesel: DPF clogging if it only does short trips, leading to warning lights and forced regens.
• Transmission hesitation or harsh shifts (6- or 8-speed, depending on build), often improved by software updates.
• Infotainment glitches: CarPlay/Android Auto dropouts, screen freezes, or camera lag.
• Wind noise and interior trim/sunroof rattles on coarse-bitumen roads.
• Power tailgate acting up (alignment/strut or latch adjustments needed).
• Driver-assist false alarms or beeps (AEB/sensors needing calibration).

Most of these are sorted with software updates, proper DPF-regenerating drives, or straightforward warranty fixes, so a stamped service book is gold. On a test drive, listen for trim/suspension rattles, check for smooth shifts, and make sure all driver aids and the tailgate behave themselves. Also confirm any recalls have been done via Hyundai Australia, and if it’s a diesel that did mostly short trips, budget time for the occasional highway run to keep the DPF happy.
