The 2023 Subaru WRX keeps the rally DNA but ditches the boy-racer rough edges for something you can daily without rattling your fillings.
Its 2.4‑litre turbo flat‑four makes about 202 kW and 350 Nm, feeding Subaru’s trademark AWD via a snickety 6‑speed manual or a CVT that’s better than you think, but still a CVT.
Grip is immense, body control is tidy, and the new platform soaks up Aussie B-roads with a maturity the old car could only dream about.
Inside you get a big portrait screen, better materials, and decent space; go CVT for the full safety suite, as manuals miss some gadgets.
Downsides? The cladding won’t be everyone’s cup of Bushells, the engine loves a mid-range surge more than a high-rev howl, and fuel economy is merely okay if you behave.
