4wd light on dashboard Page 1049

If the 4WD light is on solid, your four-wheel drive is engaged; great on dirt or sand, not so clever on dry tarmac if it’s a part-time system.

Flashing usually means it’s trying (and failing) to lock or unlock—roll slowly, shift to neutral or park, and give it a moment; don’t force 4L on the fly.

If it keeps flashing or throws other warnings, you may have a fault—time to drive gently and investigate.

  • Transfer case actuator or motor sticking
  • Vacuum lines or solenoids for front hubs leaking
  • Wheel speed or range sensors playing up
  • Mismatched tyre sizes/pressures causing driveline bind
  • Low/dirty transfer case or diff fluid, or wiring/earth issues

Check the owner’s manual for your model’s behaviour, scan for fault codes, and see a mechanic before something expensive gives up in protest.
