Victoria spoils 4x4ers: Blue Rag Range Track serves skyline views and steep pinches, while Billy Goats Bluff and the Wonnangatta area keep the pulse properly elevated. Closer to Melbourne, Toolangi and Bunyip State Park turn muddy and rutted after rain, and the Otways mix rainforest vibes with the odd water crossing. Westward, the Grampians and Victoria Range offer rocky climbs; up in the Mallee, Big Desert and the Border Track dish out long sand sections.

Check seasonal closures (High Country tracks typically shut over winter/spring), carry recovery gear, travel with a mate, and drop pressures for sand. Permits, park rules and fire bans still apply—this isn’t Thunderdome. Conditions change fast, so peek at Parks Victoria updates before you point the bonnet skyward.
