Adelaide to Canberra by car is a decent stretch: about 1,150 km and roughly 12–13 hours at sane speeds.
The easy line is Sturt Hwy (A20) over the Hay Plains to the Hume (M31) near Gundagai, then the Barton (A25) into Canberra—no tolls, just lots of horizon.
Plan fuel and coffee before the Plains, and avoid dusk unless you fancy meeting the local wildlife at 110 km/h.
If endurance isn’t your thing, overnight in Hay or Wagga Wagga and let your spine un-crinkle.
Chasing scenery? The coastal swing via the Princes Hwy is prettier but slower and longer.
Pack snacks, a playlist and patience; your passengers—and posterior—will be far happier.
