From Adelaide to Lake Bumbunga is a breezy 1.5–2 hours’ drive, roughly 140–150 km north via the A1/Port Wakefield Road toward Lochiel.

Stick to the A1, sail past Port Wakefield, and you’ll spot the famous pink lake just before Lochiel—no treasure map required.

The colour pops best on bright, dry days when salinity is high; after heavy rain it can look more shy than pink.

Use the pull‑offs near Lochiel for access, and remember the salt crust is fragile—walk, don’t drive on it, unless you fancy explaining yourself to a tow truck.

Bring water, sun protection, and shoes you don’t mind salting; cameras love it, car carpets don’t.

Head back the same way or detour through the Clare Valley if you believe every good road trip deserves a reward at the end.
