In Victoria, kids aged 4 to 7 must use an approved booster seat or a forward-facing seat with an inbuilt harness that suits their size. After 7 years, they can use an adult seatbelt only if it fits properly—lap belt low over the hips, sash across the middle of the shoulder, and they can sit back with knees bending at the seat edge. If the belt doesn’t fit like that, keep them in a booster until it does; height around 145 cm is a handy rule of thumb. It’s simple: the right restraint, correctly fitted, beats parental nervous sweating every time.
