air con stopped working Page 3

When your car’s air con down-tools on a 38°C day, it’s usually one of these usual suspects rather than a curse from the motoring gods.

  • Blown fuse/relay or a dodgy control switch stopping the compressor from kicking in.
  • Low refrigerant from a leak — look for oily residue on lines and listen for the clutch cycling rapidly.
  • Compressor or belt/clutch failure, often accompanied by squeals, clicks, or no engagement at all.
  • Blocked cabin filter or failing blower motor/resistor causing weak or no airflow through the vents.

If you don’t own manifold gauges and a vacuum pump, this is a job for an auto‑sparky or AC tech — you’ll save time, gas, and a lot of sweating at red lights.
