In Australia, the front seat isn’t a kiddie throne until they’re older. Children under 4 years cannot sit in the front of a vehicle with two or more rows. From 4 to under 7, they can only ride up front if all rear seats are already occupied by kids under seven, and they must be in the correct child seat/booster. At 7 years and over they may sit in front, but the back seat is safer until about 12. If a child must go up front, slide the seat back, use a lap‑sash belt, and never put a rear‑facing capsule in front of an active airbag. Laws are broadly national, but minor state differences exist—check your local road rules before you play musical chairs.
