If you’re talking tax, the ATO’s cents-per-kilometre method is the lazy-but-legal way to claim car use without a logbook—bliss. The rate was 78c/km for 2022–23 (1 Jul 2022–30 Jun 2023) and jumped to 85c/km for 2023–24 (from 1 Jul 2023), with a cap of 5,000 km per car per year. That single rate is meant to cover fuel, servicing, tyres, rego, insurance and depreciation, so don’t double-dip. Keep reasonable notes on how you worked out the kilometres, and if your costs are higher (and you like spreadsheets), the logbook method might be worth a squiz. This is general info—talk to a tax pro if your situation’s messier than a servo pie in summer.
