Short answer: most AU Falcons (1998–2002) didn’t get a factory cabin/pollen filter, so there’s nothing to change and that dusty whiff isn’t your imagination.
If an aftermarket kit’s been fitted, it usually lives under the plastic cowl at the base of the windscreen on the passenger side, right above the blower intake.
To access it, remove the wiper arms, pop the cowl clips/screws, lift the panel, and you’ll find a rectangular slot/cover for the filter.
Refit the cowl carefully to avoid water leaks, and if anything looks bodged, consult a workshop manual or a savvy Ford forum before you get too enthusiastic.
It’s not glamorous, but it beats breathing in half of last summer’s leaf collection.
