australia best small car 2023 Page 7

Hunting for Australia’s best small car in 2023? Your shortlist basically writes itself: Toyota Corolla (reliability and hybrid thrift; CVT about as exciting as dry toast), Mazda 3 (lush cabin, sharp handling; tight rear and so-so visibility), Hyundai i30 (great value, Aussie‑tuned ride; N Line can be thirsty and firm), Kia Cerato (big warranty, keen price; less polish), and VW Golf (serene refinement and tech; higher price and patchy supply).

All are safe, modern and easy to live with, but they suit different priorities. Chase economy and resale? Go Corolla. Want the nicest cabin and steering feel? Mazda 3. Feature‑per‑dollar hunter? i30 or Cerato. Crave a calm, grown‑up drive? Golf.
