Chasing Australia’s best beaches of 2023? The official gong went to Stokes Bay, Kangaroo Island (SA), crowned number one in Tourism Australia’s “Best Australian Beaches” list curated by beach expert Brad Farmer.

The selections celebrate sparkling water, squeaky-clean sand, natural wow-factor and just enough facilities to keep the day from turning into a sunscreen-scented circus.

In plain English: it wasn’t all the usual city show-ponies—plenty of wild coves and family-friendly stretches made the cut across the country.

Planning a pilgrimage? Aim for late summer to early autumn, check local conditions and access rules, and pack patience—paradise tends to draw a crowd.
