Installing a baby car seat shouldn’t feel like defusing a bomb, but the first go can be… character-building.
Use a restraint that meets AS/NZS 1754 and suits your child’s size, then secure it using either ISOFIX lower anchors or the vehicle seatbelt as the manufacturer directs, plus the top tether to the approved anchor point.
Tighten until the base moves less than about 2.5 cm at the belt path, and set the recline indicated by the seat so bub’s head doesn’t slump forward.
Harness snug means no bulky jackets and no webbing pinch at the collarbone; keep straps flat and routed exactly as shown in the guides.
Rear seat is safest and never place a child in front of an active airbag; if something looks odd, it probably is.
For peace of mind, get an accredited fitter to check your install and follow both the seat and vehicle manuals like they’re sacred texts.
