best 4wd tyres for sand driving

When it comes to conquering the sandy dunes without getting stuck like a tourist in a bush pub, you want 4WD tyres that scream "float, not sink." Look for tyres with a wide footprint and paddle-like tread patterns to spread your weight and dig less.

• BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2: Tough, durable, and does well on sand and rocks.
• Toyo Open Country M/T: Aggressive tread, excellent for soft sand but can be noisier on tarmac.
• Maxxis Bighorn MT-762: Budget-friendly with decent sand performance.

Remember, airing down your tyres to around 15-20 psi is as important as picking the right tyre. New tyres typically run from $250 to $400 each in Australia, while used options pop up on Tradingpost and CarShowroom for less. Always check official specs to match your vehicle and driving needs.
