best car harness for dogs

The best car harness for dogs is one that’s crash-tested, fits snugly, and anchors to the seatbelt—not a flimsy walking harness pretending to be brave. Look for wide chest panels, metal hardware, and short tethers that keep your dog from becoming a furry pendulum in a sudden stop. Crash-tested options from reputable brands (think Sleepypod, EzyDog, Ruffwear) are well-regarded, but always check the latest test data and sizing charts. Pop the pooch in the back seat, thread the car’s seatbelt through the harness as directed, and keep heads inside windows—cute doesn’t beat physics. Expect to pay roughly AUD 80–250, and measure chest girth properly; a sloppy fit is as useful as a chocolate teapot. Laws vary by state, but fines can apply if a pet distracts the driver, so secure them properly and enjoy the ride.
