best car insurance for p-platers nsw Page 2

For P-platers in NSW, “best” usually means the right mix of cover and a premium that doesn’t vaporise your servo-snack budget. Start by getting quotes for comprehensive cover from mainstream insurers (think NRMA, AAMI, Allianz, QBE, Budget Direct, Youi) and compare age excesses, named-driver rules, agreed vs market value, and whether they actually accept P-platers. Telematics/usage-based options can trim costs if you drive little and behave like you’ve got grandma in the passenger seat. Keep claims clean, park securely, and pick a modest car; the less “hoon” it looks, the kinder the algorithm.

Remember NSW CTP (Green Slip) is mandatory and separate; use the Service NSW Green Slip check to compare CTP, then layer third-party property or comprehensive on top. Get at least three like-for-like quotes, read the P-plate fine print, and don’t be shy about calling to ask for a better price—polite pestering beats paying the “young driver tax” forever.
