best driving roads melbourne Page 857

Melbourne’s finest driving roads are a greatest-hits album of curves, gums, and the occasional caravan doing 12 km/h just to keep you honest.

Try the Great Ocean Road for cliffside drama and smooth sweepers—go early before the selfie sticks wake up. The Black Spur between Healesville and Narbethong is a ribbon through towering rainforest; damp shadows demand finesse, not heroics. Reefton Spur and the nearby Acheron Way serve up tighter bends and fewer tourists, but watch for debris and errant lycra. Closer in, Mount Dandenong Tourist Road and the St Andrews–Kinglake run offer quick thrills between bakeries. Obey limits, watch for wildlife and cyclists, and save the lunacy for track days—your licence will thank you.
