Prioritise a solid steel door (≥6 mm), bolt-down holes with proper anchors, a 30–60 minute fire rating, and an internal volume that fits A4/folders with room to grow.

New units typically land around AUD $250–$1,000 depending on size and fire lining, while used safes in good nick show up near AUD $150–$700—budget for fresh anchors and a code reset.

Go for a reliable electronic lock with mechanical override (or a simple dial), concealed hinges, and bolt it to concrete with 10–12 mm expansion anchors; otherwise a thief will simply take your “security solution” for a stroll.
