best insurance for modified 4x4 Page 3

For a modified 4x4, the “best” insurance is the one that actually covers your mods and where you drive, not just the shiny brochure. Look for agreed value, listed accessories cover for every mod (bullbar to snorkel), off-road use including water crossings, and recovery/towing off the blacktop.

Policies from specialists like Club 4X4 and enthusiast-focused outfits such as Shannons are popular for heavy mod lists, while big names like NRMA/RACV may work if your changes are mild and properly declared. Keep receipts and photos of every accessory, note replacement values, and lodge engineering certificates where required—surprises are for birthdays, not claims. Ask about glass cover, contents in the vehicle, and excesses for water or track use. Always read the PDS and confirm in writing that each modification is accepted.
