best off road caravan australia 2023 Page 7

Hunting for the best off-road caravan in Australia for 2023? Spoiler: there’s no magic unicorn, just tough vans that don’t rattle your crockery to dust on corrugations.

• Kedron AT5/Top Ender: Pros — bombproof chassis, big payloads, serious water capacity; Cons — heavy (~3.0–3.5 t ATM) and pricey, needs a 4x4 with a 3.5 t tow rating.
• Bushtracker (18–22'): Pros — custom builds, rugged frames, excellent off-grid power and tanks; Cons — weight/size, premium pricing, and long lead times.
• Lotus Trooper/Off Grid: Pros — tough Cruisemaster suspension, lithium/solar packages, classy interiors; Cons — not exactly light or cheap, with a firm off-road focus.

Shortlist these, match the ATM to your tow vehicle, do a shakedown trip, and then tackle the big lap without needing a cabinetmaker at the next roadhouse.
