The best road trip in Tassie? Do a clockwise lap from Hobart: Port Arthur, Freycinet (hello, Wineglass Bay), Bicheno and the Bay of Fires, then up to Launceston, across to Cradle Mountain, on to Strahan via the wild West Coast, and back to Hobart—roughly 1,300 km of blissful bends. Allow 7–10 days so you’re tasting pinot, not just fumes. Short on time? The East Coast run (Hobart to Launceston via Freycinet and Bay of Fires) in 4–5 days is a peach. Roads are tight and twisty, wildlife loves dusk, and the weather does four seasons before lunch—so plan daylight drives and book a Parks Pass. You’ll come home sun-kissed, windblown, and annoyingly smug.
