best second-hand hilux to buy Page 7

Best second-hand HiLux to buy? Two sweet spots: late 2013–2015 SR/SR5 3.0 D‑4D for tough-as-nails simplicity, and 2020-on 2.8 diesel for the power bump and calmer DPF behaviour.

If you’re eyeing 2016–2018 models, check for DPF updates or proof of dealer fixes; the early ones could be, shall we say, a bit sooty.

Look for full service history, injector and EGR attention, minimal rust, no mining spec scars, and suspension that isn’t clapped out from GVM dreams.

Auto vs manual? The auto is easier to tow and live with, but a tidy manual with sensible mods is gold in the scrub.

When shopping on Tradingpost, prioritise condition over accessories; a straight, unmolested body beats a lift kit and tales of “only beach work.”
