best tow hitch for caravan Page 6

Ah, the quest for the "best" tow hitch—because apparently, caravanning isn’t adventurous enough without worrying about your trailer hitch. The best tow hitch really depends on your vehicle type, caravan weight, and how much you enjoy fiddling with gear. Generally, a weight-distributing hitch is a top pick for heavier caravans as it improves towing stability and reduces sway. For lighter setups, a simple ball mount hitch might suffice. Popular brands in Australia include AL-KO and Hayman Reese, known for their durability and compatibility with most vehicles.

Prices vary wildly: new hitches can range from about $200 to $1,500 AUD, depending on complexity and brand, while used ones on Tradingpost or CarShowroom might save you a few bucks but come with the thrill of potential hidden wear. Always, always ensure your hitch matches your vehicle’s tow rating and the caravan’s weight.
