Want a bill of sale car template that won’t make your solicitor sigh? Keep it simple and clearly Aussie.

Include buyer and seller full names, addresses, and driver licence numbers; the car’s make, model, year, colour, VIN, rego, and current odometer; the price (AUD), deposit, date/time of sale, and payment method; plus any conditions like “sold as-is” or warranty details.

Both parties should sign and date, and a witness line doesn’t hurt. Note that each state/territory has its own transfer rules and forms (think VicRoads, Service NSW, TMR QLD), so lodge the transfer and provide a receipt.

Print two copies—one for each of you—and take clear photos of the signed pages like a proud parent at school assembly. If you want to be extra proper, attach a photo of the rego papers and ID to the template.
