bmw v10 engine Page 28

BMW’s V10 is the S85: a 5.0-litre, naturally aspirated showpiece inspired by the brand’s F1 flirtation and wedged into the E60 M5 and E63/64 M6.

It belts out about 373 kW and 520 Nm, screams to an 8250 rpm redline, and inhales through individual throttle bodies—a cathedral of noise with zero interest in subtlety.

Transmissions were a 7-speed SMG single-clutch (mostly) or a rare 6-speed manual, and the engine rewards meticulous warm-up and frequent oil changes.

Do mind the famous foibles: rod bearings, throttle actuators, SMG hydraulic pumps and cooling neglect can turn symphony into dirge if ignored. Consult official documentation for exact figures.
