You’re thinking of Peter Brock, the Aussie motorsport icon who made Mount Panorama his lounge room. Nicknamed “King of the Mountain”, he won the Bathurst 1000 a record nine times, mostly with the Holden Dealer Team. His road-car magic spawned HDT Special Vehicles, turning ordinary Commodores into poster material for every driveway dreamer. He could be smooth as butter on track and just as sharp with a quip in the pits. Brock passed away in 2006 during a tarmac rally, but the legend still thunders down Conrod Straight every October.
