buying a car from a private seller south australia

Buying a car from a private seller in South Australia is simple if you tick the boring-but-vital boxes.

Run a PPSR check to confirm it’s not stolen, written off, or still under finance, and make sure the seller’s ID matches the rego papers.

SA doesn’t require a roadworthy certificate for private sales, so book a pre‑purchase inspection and inspect logbooks, VIN and odometer yourself.

Get a signed receipt with VIN, price, date and odometer, then transfer the registration within 14 days via Service SA/EzyReg and pay stamp duty and transfer fees.

Sort insurance before you drive off; CTP rides with the rego, but you’ll want comprehensive cover unless you enjoy roulette.

Pay securely (bank transfer/Osko), meet in daylight, and if the vibes are weirder than a sausage sizzle at a vegan festival, walk away—there are plenty of options on Tradingpost.
