buying a second-hand caravan privately Page 13

Buying a second-hand caravan privately is equal parts treasure hunt and detective work—bring a torch, a nose for damp, and your best poker face. Check the VIN matches the rego, run a PPSR check to avoid finance or write-off surprises, and inspect for leaks, soft floors, chassis rust, tired brakes, and tyres older than your thongs. Test all appliances, ask for gas/electrical compliance certificates, and make sure the ATM/GVM and your tow rig’s capacities play nicely in kilograms. Take it for a tow, listen for grumbles, and weigh it if in doubt—surprises are great for birthdays, not for caravans. Get the service history, confirm awning and seals aren’t auditioning for a sprinkler role, and document the sale with a proper receipt and verified bank transfer. When you’re ready, Tradingpost has plenty of privately listed vans—just the thing for your next great escape without the dealer tango.
