Buying a car in QLD and bringing it to NSW is perfectly doable—just add paperwork and a dash of patience.
Before you hand over cash, run a PPSR check, verify finance/rego status, and get a pre‑purchase inspection so you’re not adopting someone else’s rattle.
If it’s currently registered in QLD with valid CTP, you can drive it home; if not, use a trailer/transport or get an Unregistered Vehicle Permit for the trip.
Once in NSW, you’ll need a Blue Slip inspection, a NSW CTP greenslip, and then register it at Service NSW where you’ll pay stamp duty and plate fees.
Surrender the QLD plates and have the previous owner cancel the QLD rego for any refund—interstate rego can’t be “transferred” into NSW.
Keep every receipt and ID handy, and budget time because bureaucracy accelerates like a caravan up a hill.
