In Queensland, car “stamp duty” is vehicle registration duty—basically a percentage of the car’s dutiable value (the price you pay or market value, whichever’s higher).
The percentage rate depends on the engine category (number of cylinders/rotors) and whether it’s hybrid or electric; utes and some commercial vehicles sit on different scales.
To calculate it: confirm the dutiable value, find the correct rate from the Queensland schedule for your vehicle type, then multiply value × rate and round to the nearest dollar.
Remember, this is separate from transfer fees, rego and CTP, which get added on top—because of course they do.
For an exact figure, use the official calculator or check the current schedule; governments love changing the fine print just after you’ve done the maths.
