camping areas melbourne Page 9

Chasing camping areas near Melbourne? You’re spoiled for choice, even if your tent-peg aim is about as straight as a shopping trolley. Try Cathedral Range and Lake Eildon to the north-east, Grampians out west, and Wilsons Prom or the Mornington Peninsula if you fancy coastal views. For ferny vibes and glow-worm bragging rights, the Great Otway National Park delivers, while Lerderderg State Park keeps it rugged and close to town. Most popular sites require bookings via Parks Victoria, and school holidays evaporate faster than your phone battery at 2%—plan ahead. Pack mozzie spray, check fire restrictions, and bring a tarp unless you enjoy waking up in a portable puddle.
