Short answer: no, you can’t slap a rooftop tent on any car and call it “overlanding”—physics and warranties still exist.
You need a vehicle and rack system with a manufacturer-rated dynamic roof load that safely exceeds the tent’s weight, and proper mounting points (not just stick-on rails).
Glass panoramic roofs, tiny hatches, and convertibles are often a hard no; utes and SUVs with fixed points or rails are your safer bets.
Remember the difference between dynamic (driving) and static (parked) ratings—the latter is higher, but you still have to get to camp without turning the tent into an impromptu kite.
Check the owner’s manual, the rack maker’s specs, and your insurer before you channel your inner explorer.
