Cancelling rego in Victoria is less epic than it sounds: return your number plates to VicRoads and lodge an Application to Cancel Registration with proof of identity.

You can do it at a Customer Service Centre or by post; refunds for the unused portion of registration and TAC charges are pro‑rata, minus a small admin fee, and usually start from when VicRoads receives your plates.

If your plates are lost or stolen, include a police report or a statutory declaration instead—no, duct tape doesn’t count.
