Cancelling rego in Victoria is about as exciting as dry toast, but at least it’s straightforward. Lodge a cancellation through your myVicRoads account or at a VicRoads Customer Service Centre, then remove and surrender your number plates (post or drop-off)—no plates, no cancellation.
Bring ID and proof of disposal if relevant (sold, written-off, exported), and expect a pro‑rata refund of the remaining registration/TAC for full unused months, minus a small admin fee. If the plates are lost or stolen, you’ll need a police report number. Don’t forget to cancel your insurance separately, unless you enjoy paying for nothing.
