Australia’s child seat laws are refreshingly simple: match restraint to age and size, and keep little humans in the back where they belong.

Under 6 months: rear-facing only; 6 months to under 4: rear or forward with an in‑built harness; 4 to under 7: forward-facing with harness or a booster used with a properly adjusted lap‑sash belt.

Kids under 4 can’t sit in the front of a car with two or more rows; those 4 to under 7 may only use the front seat if all rear spots are taken by under‑7s.

Use seats that meet AS/NZS 1754, follow the height‑marker guides, and anchor everything correctly—MacGyvering with towels doesn’t count.
