car rego fees vic Page 3167

In Victoria, car rego is a two‑part special: the VicRoads registration fee plus the TAC charge (that’s your compulsory third‑party cover) rolled into one bill. If you’re putting fresh plates on, add a plate fee; if you’re changing ownership, there’s a VicRoads transfer fee—because paperwork should always come with a souvenir. These are separate from motor vehicle duty (stamp duty) you pay at purchase, and from things like roadworthy certificates or dealer delivery, which aren’t strictly “rego fees”. You can usually choose 3, 6 or 12‑month rego, and concessions apply for eligible drivers and some regional use. For an all‑in figure, ask for a Victorian “drive‑away” quote or run the VicRoads calculator while pretending it’s not real money.
