car rego melbourne Page 6

In Melbourne, “car rego” is just Victorian vehicle registration with VicRoads—no special city rules, just the usual bureaucracy with extra coffee.

Renewals are done online via VicRoads using your rego details; pay up and you’re sorted.

Buying a used car? You’ll need a current Roadworthy Certificate (RWC), proof of identity and address, a transfer form, and to lodge the transfer within 14 days.

Registration costs bundle the rego fee and the TAC charge (Victoria’s compulsory injury cover), and transfers also attract motor vehicle duty.

Moving from interstate? Get a Vic RWC, fit Victorian plates, and be ready to present the car or ID if VicRoads asks.

Do as much as possible online; when in doubt, check VicRoads—arguing with a website is still easier than arguing with a parking inspector.
