car transfer tasmania Page 8802

Transferring a car in Tasmania is blessedly straightforward—no sacrificial paperwork to the gods required. The buyer lodges the transfer (online or at Service Tasmania), pays stamp duty and a transfer fee, and needs ID plus the vehicle’s rego/VIN details and sale date. The seller should lodge a notice of disposal and hand over a proper receipt with names, price, VIN/rego, and date. Tasmania doesn’t require a routine roadworthy for a normal private sale transfer, but any defects are still your circus when it comes to re‑registration or defect clearances. If the car isn’t currently registered, you’ll need an unregistered vehicle permit to legally move it on public roads—otherwise it’s trailer time. Do the transfer promptly to dodge late fees and unnecessary drama.
