car transmission price Page 7

Short answer: a replacement transmission can cost anything from a cheeky weekend away to a painful house deposit—so let’s narrow it down.

In Australia, a brand‑new OEM unit for a mainstream car typically runs $3,000–$8,000 plus labour, while premium or heavy‑duty boxes can hit $8,000–$15,000.

Used or reconditioned units are usually $1,500–$4,500, with fitting adding $800–$2,500 depending on AWD, access, and workshop rates.

For context, minor fixes or a fluid service can be $250–$600, but a full rebuild commonly lands around $2,500–$5,000.

Prices swing with brand, gearbox type (auto, DCT, CVT, manual), and whether parts are new, exchange, or from a wrecker—so get quotes from at least three reputable workshops.
